Dr. Shahzad Shahmalak

Dr. Shahmalak is a general adult psychiatrist who is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He currently works as a staff Psychiatrist at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Ontario, where he has worked since 2012. He treats and manages a wide variety of psychiatric disorders for patients of all ages.

 

Dr. Shahmalak completed his residency in psychiatry at New York Medical College. Upon completion of his residency program, he came back to Hamilton, Ontario, where he completed a two-year fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at McMaster University. He has held medical licenses in Kentucky and New York. He is  currently licensed in Ontario and recognized as a certified specialist.

 

Upon the completion of his training, he entered clinical practice and has been in active practice for the past nineteen years. He initially joined Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky. This is where he worked with severely mentally ill individuals and treated a wide array of psychiatric disorders that impact all age groups.  He also managed a substance abuse and detox unit.

 

During his career, he has held multiple faculty positions including Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at McMaster University. He is actively involved in teaching medical students and residents in psychiatry. He also provides consultation to various prominent pharmaceutical companies.

 

Dr. Shahmalak has held a variety of medical leadership positions including Director of the Department of Psychiatry in Kentucky and Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
