Dr. Sujay Patel – Founder and Advisor
Dr. Sujay Patel is a psychiatrist with broad clinical and medicolegal expertise. He completed medical school at University College Dublin and residency at Memorial University, earning his FRCP(C) in 2008. His international training includes the Maudsley Hospital (London), Mayo Clinic, and Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital. He runs an inpatient and outpatient practice focused on mood, anxiety, psychotic, and substance use disorders, with interests in medical leadership, rehabilitation, pain medicine, and acquired brain injury. He consults for the Kitchener-Waterloo Acquired Brain Injury Program and holds multiple certifications in independent and medicolegal evaluations.
Dr. Patel has served as a consultant to the Canada Border Services Agency, Ontario’s Coroner’s Office, and the Consent and Capacity Board. He conducts practice assessments for Ontario’s medical regulator and provides independent evaluations across several provinces. He is certified with the U.S. Veteran Evaluation Services and is listed on bestdoctors.com. As Co-Founder of “Mental Health Without Borders,” he has led mental health missions in South America. He holds academic appointments at McMaster and the University of Ottawa, has published research, received teaching awards, and serves as a Royal College examiner.

Dr. Shazhzad Shahmalak - Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Shahmalak is a board-certified general adult psychiatrist with broad experience treating psychiatric disorders across all age groups. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, he has practiced in both the U.S. and Canada. After completing his psychiatry residency at New York Medical College and St. Vincent Hospital in Manhattan, he returned to Canada for a two-year Forensic Psychiatry fellowship at McMaster University and Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital. He has held medical licenses in Kentucky, New York, and currently Ontario, where he now works in private practice.
With over 20 years of clinical experience, Dr. Shahmalak began his career treating severely mentally ill patients at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Kentucky. He has managed a range of conditions including depression, anxiety, psychosis, dementia, and substance use disorders. He has held academic roles as Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky, Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine, and currently teaches at McMaster University. His leadership roles include Chief of Psychiatry at Cambridge Memorial Hospital and Director of Psychiatry in Kentucky. He also consults for various pharmaceutical companies.
